Getting started
From Microsoft AppSource to your first handover: install, set up a site, add your licence key and start.
Handover Pro runs tracked, signed handovers in SharePoint Online: when someone leaves, changes role, passes on a piece of work, hands over a client or goes on leave. This guide takes you from install to your first handover. It takes about fifteen minutes.
Before you start
- SharePoint Online in Microsoft 365.
- A SharePoint administrator (or an owner of the tenant app catalog) to add the app once for your organisation.
- A site to run handovers from, for example an HR or IT site. The people who start handovers must be owners of it.
- Handover Pro needs no admin consent, no Azure app registration and no Microsoft Graph permissions. It works with each person's own SharePoint permissions.
1. Add Handover Pro to your tenant
From Microsoft Marketplace (AppSource):
- Open the Handover Pro listing on Microsoft Marketplace and select Get it now, signed in as a SharePoint administrator.
- Or, in SharePoint, open your organisation's Apps site (the tenant app catalog), select SharePoint Store, search for Handover Pro and select Add.
- Choose whether to make it available to all sites, or add it only to the sites you choose.
From the package: if you received handover-pro.sppkg from Apps 365, upload it to your tenant app catalog, or to a site collection app catalog to use it in one site collection only.
2. Add it to a page
- In the site you will use, if the app is not available to all sites, add it from Site contents > New > App.
- Create a page, for example Handovers, with a one-column, full-width section.
- Edit the page, add the Handover Pro web part (toolbox group Advanced) and publish the page.
You can also run it as a full-page app, or add the page to Microsoft Teams as a tab (set Page address for links in the web part's settings when you do).
3. Set up the site
Open the page as a site owner and press Set up this site. Set-up adds two hidden lists, a hidden library for working data and a Handovers library for sealed packages. Only site owners can see them, unless someone takes part in a handover. Set-up is safe to run again.
Once the site is set up, Handover Pro sends Apps 365 a small daily check-in: the tenant ID, site address, app version and licence state, never names or handover content. A site owner can switch it off in Settings > Connections.
4. Add a licence key, or try it first
Without a key, Handover Pro runs as an evaluation: every feature, one handover at a time, and sealed packages are marked as an evaluation.
- Free trial: 14 days, up to three handovers at a time. Start it from handoverpro.com/pricing; the key is issued straight away.
- Plans: Team, Department or Tenant, paid yearly, or an Exit Pack for a single handover. Keys are issued as soon as payment is through and are kept under My Account > Licence keys in the APPS 365 shop.
To enter a key, open Handover Pro as a site owner, press Settings, then Enter licence key. Handover Pro shows what the key covers before you save it. A SharePoint administrator can also save keys for the whole tenant. Keys are never shown in the web part's settings, so people who edit the page cannot see or change them.
5. Settings to check before the first handover
Open Settings and check:
- Privacy notice: shown to the person handing over before they answer anything.
- Reviewers: people such as HR or compliance who should read every sealed package.
- Interview due date, retention and evidence limits: the standard values suit most organisations.
6. Start your first handover
- On the Handovers page press New handover.
- What and who: choose the kind of handover (leaving, changing role, passing on work, handing over a client, or cover), the person, the date, who takes over and, if you want one, an approver. Press Next.
- What to map: tick the lists and libraries, or choose folders, and add more sites if needed. Press Next.
- Check and start: confirm you have told the person, then press Start handover. It opens on the Map tab.
From there Handover Pro maps the content, lists the gaps and prepares the interview, and the top of the Overview always says what to do next.
Press Help at the top of any page for help with that page and a short tour of it.
